The Year 3 Team

It has been another busy term with assessments, excursions and the concert. Students have been looking at a variety of new topics across all subjects this term. The busy little bees of Year 3 have been working extremely well to develop both socially and academically.

In Mathematics students had been looking at multiplication, division and fractions. They explored volume and capacity and looked at what they measure and have completed an experiment in class to see how to measure them using the correct units of measurement.

Every Wednesday, the Year 3s have been participating in gymnastics lessons. The students absolutely loved every moment of these classes. Not only were these sessions fun and interactive, but they were physically challenging, pushing some students to achieve what they thought they could never do. Aside from it being a great form of exercise, students also learned to socialise and worked on their team building skills. In Physical Education class students have been learning the rules for Australian Rules football, learning how to handball, kick and mark. They have also built on their team building skills, by working together to learn the rules and playing against each other in mini games.

This term our Integrated Studies topic was based on science. The students went on an excursion to Scienceworks, where they watched an experiment about their topic Solids, Liquids and Gases. They then watched a movie in the planetarium about the constellations, the solar system, why we have night and day, the years and the seasons and how shadows are made - introducing their topic for science this term Earth and Space Sciences. In our Chemical Science lessons, we learnt about the different states of matter and how heat is transferred from one object to another. Students had a lot of fun with our hands-on experiments each week. They made their own butter and indulged in delicious fairy bread; they investigated what happens to chocolate at different temperatures; they explored shadows out in the sun; and they even made balloons magically blow up by themselves with the help of a chemical reaction.

In Literacy, students have been working hard on writing information reports. Each week students read up on a different topic, extracted appropriate information and created their own information report along with beautiful hand drawn and labelled pictures to complement their hard work. Our brilliant students also came first in our interschool spelling competition. We would like to personally thank them dearly for all of their hard work and dedication. Well done guys! We’re all so proud of you!

In regards to homework, please make sure that students are completing their Reading Eggs and Mathletics tasks online. Students have access to computers at school, if they do not have access at home. Homework booklets are given on Mondays and are due on Fridays and Math Mental homework is given over the weekend.

We look forward to more exciting learning adventures. Hope you all have a great term break and we look forward to see you next term.

Kindest regards,
Ms Fusun Tufekci & Mr Erkan Kocdemir
